Birmingham Botanical Gardens

April 6, 2008

Today was another beautiful day in the South (oh how I am dreading that winter in Michigan!). We went to the Botanical Gardens to enjoy the weather.
Liam received quite a bit of attention while we were there. People are amazed at how small he is which I find funny because he has grown so much. It amazes me that people feel that they can touch a stranger's baby. I feel like such a psycho when they walk away and I am getting out the baby wipes to clean his hands. All I can think about is that the majority of people don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom and then touch my baby. If I only had the balls to stop them before they touch him...does anyone have any ideas? Mike just laughs at me and my OCD.
Anyway we had a great day. We got quite a bit of exercise and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine. Oh and today I nursed for the first time in public. We found a swing that was out of the way and I used my "Hooter Hiders" cover up (yes that is really what it is called!), it went pretty well. I don't think I flashed anyone!
I love these pictures and cherish every moment with Mike and Liam. We do make quite the pretty family!

All Dressed Up...and No Where to Go!

April 6, 2008

I love to dress Liam up in all his fun clothes, thanks to Grandma! He probably gets tired of all the posing and flashes.

The baseball cap is too cute, "What up dog?"

Grandma Jean and Grandpa Bob Come to Visit

March 30,2008
My parents drove down to visit Liam, it was my dad's first time meeting the little guy. My dad loves to hold Liam and talk to him, I think that it was love at first site!
Unfortunately their visit got cut short...my Uncle Ken died on March 31, 2008 and they headed back North for the funeral. My Uncle Ken was very special to me, we shared a birthday and I have very fond memories of him from my childhood. Whenever he came to visit us as kids there was always room for me on his lap, and when we went to visit him at the office he always had a candy jar filled up waiting for us and an old fashioned bottle of Coke! I am very sad that I could not go home for his funeral. I am looking forward to living in Michigan so that I could be home when I need to be. He and my Aunt Barbara (she passed away the day after Liam's birth) will be greatly missed. I like to think of them as Liam's guardian angels...

Liam's First Tub Bath

March 27, 2008

Liam's cord finally has fallen off! Tonight he had his first tub bath and really seemed to enjoy it. He truly is a pooper though...he peed and pooped in the water! I think that Mike was truly grossed out by the whole process. I love his little froggie towel!

Liam's 1 month Birthday!

March 27, 2008

Today Liam is one month old, gosh how time flies! He has gotten so big, his weight is 9lbs. 1oz. and he is 21 inches long. The past month has definitely been harder than I expected, I am supposed to be a professional at this right? So much for nine years of NICU experience, it is so true that when they are your own it is a whole new world.

The last month has been a challenge everyday from breastfeeding all the time to trying to change a diaper without him peeing all over the place! But things have definitely started to improve, he is nursing better and faster, diaper changes are still a challenge, and we are getting out of the house just about everyday. The trips to the grocery store, mall, and for ice cream save my sanity! I love this little guy with all my heart and can't wait to see what the next month brings.

Daddy Time

March 2008

The one thing that takes me by surprise with our new life is the overwhelming feeling of love when I watch Mike and Liam together. The moments range from tender and loving to downright hilarious.

I like to listen to Mike talk to Liam when he is changing him...I overhear stuff like:

"Your mother has you dressed in more layers then a homeless person!" that one still makes me chuckle!
"UUUGH! You pissed again!"

I am so grateful for a husband that loves Liam and takes an active role in caring for him, and for all the comic relief the two of them provide!

The Grumpy Easter Bunny

March 23, 2008
Liam's first Easter was relatively low key. We had a nice quiet dinner and celebrated as a family. I was a little sad that we did not have family here with us but it turned out to be a great day. I loved Liam in this picture with his bunny hat on.
