Just an Adorable Picture!

August 15, 2008

I caught this picture the other night after bath time...I was trying to get a pic of Liam sucking on his toes but got this one instead. Priceless!

It Was a Beachy Weekend!

August 16-17, 2008

We had such a busy weekend...my best friend who lives in Madison, WI came to visit us on Friday night. They spent the night with us and the boys played in the morning before heading to the beach. Caleb is about 3 weeks younger than Liam but is a very tall boy and made Liam look so little!
After they were done playing we went to Bridgman, MI which is a small little beach on Lake Michigan that our families have been going to all our lives. It was neat to take Liam and Caleb there to share in a great tradition! My parents met us there too, we had a great time.

Both of the boys loved the beach! Liam loved the feel of the sand between his toes but would look a little startled when that cold Lake Michigan water would tickle his feet.

I had bought Liam a beach cabana to keep him out of the sun and he really enjoyed it. He played in it...

and he slept in it too!

On Sunday Mike, Liam, and I went to the Weber's lake on house. We had another fantastic day at the beach and really enjoyed ourselves. What a weekend...great weather, great friends, and great times!

The Big Boy Tub!!

August 13, 2008

Tonight we tried Liam in the big bathtub with his ring. I had to keep boosting him up and straighten him a bit, but overall he seemed to really like it. In the picture below he was looking up at the washcloth, boy does he love to suck on it...YUCK!
Is he not the cutest baby you have ever seen?

All those expensive toys...

and Liam love's the TAGS!!!
Liam has become quite fond of his exersaucer and will spend up to an hour in it. Yesterday I noticed that he plays the most with the tag on it...Go Figure!

He also finds all the tags on his plush toys, I guess I know why all those taggy toys have become so popular!

Visitors from Chicago!

August 13, 2008
Today we had Mary DeVoto and Emily Rahman come and visit us from Chicago. Mary and I go way back...when I was a kid Mary taught me flute and piano, I then became their babysitter to their 3 girls. We had such a close bond that I was more like a 4th daughter than a babysitter. I went on many family trips with them and have many fond memories.
Emily is Mary's 3rd daughter and is entering her Sophomore year of high school at Mother McAuley (my Alma Mater)...boy how she has grown from a scrawny baby into a beautiful young lady.
Mike and I asked Mary to be Liam's Godmother, which she excitedly accepted. Mary and her husband Tim are very strong in their faith and all around great people. I think that Mary will be such a great role model to Liam as he grows older. Thanks Mary for always being so kind and loving to me as a kid, now you can pass on more love to little Liam!

Love that Jumperoo!!!

August 8, 2008

Liam finally got to try out his jumperoo today and absolutely loves it!!! He needed a little help figuring out how to get it bouncing but as you can see he is all smiles!

It was hard to get a picture of his chubby legs because he was really moving them quite a bit.

It is a Miracle!

August 13,2008

It is a miracle, Liam is going to sleep without screaming his bloody head off! YEAH!!!! Each time I put him to bed today (morning nap, afternoon nap, and bedtime) he layed in his bed and went to sleep like the sweet little boy that he is. It is such a relief to not dread nap time and bedtime. It only took about 2 weeks of screaming to get to this point but it was so worth it. I swear that I heard the angels sing after I put Liam to bed tonight :)

Block Party

August 6, 2008

Today was our first block party in Michigan, it was on a Wednesday at 6pm. I found this to be a little weird, block parties when I was a kid were an all day affair, but we had a great time. Everyone brought a dish to share and then the fire truck came! I don't know who enjoyed the fire truck more me or Liam.
It was great to be able to meet most of the neighbors, everyone was really friendly. Almost all the women on our street are stay at home moms so hopefully I will make some great connections.

Everything Goes into the Mouth!

August 5, 2008

We have morning play time everyday, today Liam spent some time in his bumbo. He loves to put everything in his mouth...toys or a finger sandwich...it all tastes great to him!
He recently has discovered his feet, he is mesmerized by them...I can't wait for him to pull them up to his mouth and suck on those too!

The Battle of the Wills

August 5, 2008

We have been so spoiled with Liam...he started sleeping through the nights very early on and then not only slept through the night but slept for 10-12 hours. We felt so lucky and relieved seen as how I am not so nice with a lack of sleep.

The only problem was that we swaddled him, and when I say swaddled I mean mummy wrapped...both arms down and tightly wrapped. I would find him the same way I left him 12 hours before! It seemed to work with the babies in the NICU so why not do it with my own. I unfortunately did not grasp that my baby would become addicted and would not be able fall asleep unless he was swaddled.

So a couple nights ago Liam was crabby going to sleep so I decided that he finally outgrew being swaddled and unwrapped him. Boy let the battle of the wills begin!!! I do our usual nighttime routine and then lay him in the crib with a blanket lightly placed over him and he screams bloody murder. I have tried everything from going in every 5-10 minutes to soothe him (which by the way makes it worse), to picking him up (yeah an even bigger mistake), to finally putting him on his tummy (which has finally after 2 nights started to work). I know that the SIDS recommendations is "back to sleep" but I figure since he can roll over from his tummy to his back he should be OK.

Well any ideas would be much appreciated, I am doing the best I can. OI wonder am I trading one bad habit for another?

Finally caught up!

August 5, 2008

It is a miracle! I am finally caught up on my blogging. As you have probably noticed I am sometime up to a month behind so today is a big day. The last month has been a whirlwind with moving, Mike starting his new job, and getting Liam settled. But things are finally settling down.

As most of you already know my dad had a heart attack last week, he was at work and started experiencing some really bad chest pain and called his own ambulance. He went to University of Chicago Hospital which is rated 4th in the nation for cardiac care. While there his 2nd set of cardiac enzymes came back positive and he went for a cardiac cath the next day. He had a 90% blockage in the artery in back of his heart and they placed a stent. He is currently home and recovering well and states that he feels like a new man!

Liam and I were able to drive down to see him the day of his cath. It was great to see Liam brighten up my dad's face and lighten his worries even if just for a moment. This reaffirms that we needed to be closer to home and I am forever grateful that Mike found a great job in Michigan.

We are praying that my dad's health continues to improve and that this serves as a wake up call for him to change his lifestyle so that he will be around to watch Liam grow up. My dad turned 65 years old yesterday and he better be around for at least the next 20 years!

Starting early with a little reading...

August 4, 2008

I have really been trying to give Liam a lot of floor time, about 3 weeks ago he finally rolled over from his tummy to his back but has still not gone the other way yet. Here are some cute pics of him first eating his book and then reading it. I love that little guy.

Coast Guard Festival

August 2, 2008

This past weekend we went to the Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven, Michigan. It was a great day with the weather being about 80 and sunny (won't find that in the south this time of year). We went to the parade, strolled through the craft market and then walked down to the lake to tour one of the ships. It was a fun day!
Liam received many compliments on his adorable hat!

Play Time!!!

July 29, 2008

One of the best purchases I have made has been that exersaucer! Liam has really taken to it in the last 3 weeks or so. We still need to squish a blanket with him to help him stay upright but he will sit and play in that for almost an hour!

He can turn himself all around to the different toys, push all the buttons to make noise and pull some things into his mouth. He is growing up so quickly...I know that he will be walking so soon :) Sorry some of the pics are a little blurry because he was moving so much!

Lake Michigan Fun!!!

July 20, 2008
Today Mike and I went to the Weber's lake house for a day of fun and relaxation. We met Scott and Mary Beth through Mike's new job (Scott is a physician) and they have gone out of their way to remember us and make us feel welcome here in Grand Rapids. Their lake home is on Lake Michigan and is absolutely breathtaking. Mike and I did a little swimming and jet skiing while Liam took a nap. It was so much fun.
While we were there we met Scott's son Mark and some of his friends from Notre Dame. Chris plays for the football team there and had a soft spot for Liam. Chris held Liam and played with him for quite a while, it was too sweet!

Bad Dog!!!!

July 19, 2008

Tonight Mike and I went to a neighbor's house for a little get together, when we came home I heard Mike say "Oh No!". I knew that it had to be something related to one of the dogs and this is what we found:
We had gone shopping earlier in the day and bought a 5lb sack of flour which I left in the grocery bag on the floor in the kitchen. Someone took it upon themselves to bring that flour out to the front room and tear it open and have some fun. Now keep in mind that we don't have proof that it was Fletchie BUT he was the one with suspicious white stuff on his nose...hmmm.

Trying Out the Highchair

July 17, 2008

Today I assembled Liam's highchair. He can sit up pretty well without a lot of support and I wanted to get him used to sitting at the dining room table while Mike and I ate dinner. He seems to be all smiles about being a big boy!

Chicago Time!

July 2-9, 2008
Over the long fourth of July weekend we had a great time. We spent time with family and Liam was able to meet his Great Grandma Bunny. We spent some time at her house and had lunch there. It is so amazing to watch how much Liam brightens everyone's day.
My mom was ecstatic that we stayed at her house because it allowed her to hog Liam! It was nice for Mike and I to get a break from day to day activities with him and also to allow him to have some fun with his grandparents.

Happy 4th of July!

July 4, 2008

We celebrated Liam's first fourth of July at my Uncle Ross's house. Liam went swimming for the first time...it was a bit of a chore but worth it in the end. My Aunt Bette volunteered to dress him in his bathing suit ensemble (thank's to Amanda J!). Unfortunately he had a poopy in the middle of the outfit change...but we got that cleaned up and headed to the pool. He seemed to enjoy the pool but was quite unsure of it for the first bit.
Upon getting out we discovered that he had a huge download but thankfully the poopy mostly stayed in his swim diaper.
We celebrated the rest of the day with a great barbecue and a fire once it got dark. It felt so good to be home. It is nice to be able to spend time with the family, I am excited that Liam will be able to grow up surrounded by family.

More Bath Time!

July 2, 2008

We went into Chicago to spend a long 4th of July weekend. We stayed at Grandma Jean's and she loves to give Liam his bath every night. I could not resist posting these 2 cute pictures...he has gotten so big!
